  • Are AMD's newest GPUs really that great?

Well, the way I see it, nVidia is really the one leading in terms of GPU technology right now. Why? Because looks at the differences between AMD and nVidias' previous and current options in performance. nVidia's GTX 280 is a card with 240 Shader Units, that pretty much matched the 9800 GX2, which had 256 Shader Units (128 x 2). Now, you have to ...

  • Re: New to laptops

I'm with SergeiV on this one- other than RAM and Hard Drive (and in some cases, Wireless and/or Bluetooth modules), the specs you choose (display size & resolution, processor, graphics card and most other hardware) are not upgradeable.  For gamers, the GPU is the single most important component of a laptop.  Because it can't be ...

  • Graphics + Physx Question

I'm planning on buying this card: EVGA 9800 GX2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130343   Now I know that from the 8 series on, nVidia cards have phyx chipd built in. But, the other day, I had a thought, could I buy a Phyx card and run with this 9800 GX2, and see a boost in performance? Would it be worth the extra ...

  • Re: Ask NVIDIA a PhysX Question - Win a Video Card!

My question is: What benifits will I get out of PhysX when using 3D modeling applications like 3D Studio MAX, Bryce, Poser and especialy my favorite TrueSpace 7.6? Will I get benifits durring the modeling phase or just durring real time rendering?

I wanted to ask with a multi Gpu solution would it increase your overall physx proformance?  I love the inclusion of physx in GPUs where do you think Nvidia will go with Physx in the future?

  • Re: Ask NVIDIA a PhysX Question - Win a Video Card

I trust the PhysX could handle particle systems and liquid simulations rather well. The question is; would it be possible, in current and future releases of PhysX hardware, for users to develop a game engine that will enable the PhysX capabilities to calculate light particles where it will effect heat and weight of objects entangled within the ...

I'm an Electrical Engineering student at ASU; here's my question: Does Nvidia plan to implement any new instruction sets in the current GPU architecture that will be specially tailored for PhysX calculations? (I assume there are at least a few operations that PhysX requires a lot of that typical GPU's aren't optimized for yet)

  • Re: Ask NVIDIA a PhysX Question - Win a Video Card

This is something I've been wondering:     Can CUDA enabled PhysX work on SLI? Is the load shared or is one dedicated to PhysX?   Also, Will Nvidia manufacture a dedicated PPU?   One more actually, Will Nvidia make a similar CUDA translation for Havok? A large number of mainstream games would then be available to ...

  • Re: Asus P5Q Pro won't POST

The 8600 series won't work on the P5Q series. Reading on another forum that talked about the board, someone else was having that problem. The board is lacking PCI-E 1.1 support. Though the board has PCI-E 2.0, which is suppose to be backwards compatible with 1.1; ASUS left it out..somehow. I was frustrated myself having a XFX 8600GT XXX 256mb card ...
