Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

    Everything is hooked up fine.

I tried turning it on with the case opened and there was a green light on the mobo when i switched the power supply on. but then when I hit the power button, nothing turns on. only a yellow light appears near the green light. That's all.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Make sure that all your case connectors are correct, that you are using standoffs, and that your 4 pin cpu connector is in the mobo. Any chance you can take a pic of the inside so we can take a look? Also, are any of the fans running or anything?

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Try re-seating the CPU. The green light means the mobo is getting power; not sure about the yellow. Are there any beeps? Does the hard drive spin up?

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

None of the fans are turning. both of the drives arent moving or anything. I would have a picture later on if i can grab a camera from someone after they get out of work after 8pm tonight.. but anyhow. I took the motherboard out and placed it on a wooden table to try to do a test that was talked about in another forum.

The psu lights up the motherboard, and once the power switch is hit, another yellow light turns on. once i held down the power switch as if i were turning the pc off, the yellow light goes off. There are 5 stand offs already in the antec 900 case all were used.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Check your mobo manual to see what the yellow light means, but if nothing is powering up, I'm guessing that the CPU isn't seated right. Take it off, clean off the thermal paste, reapply the paste, then put the CPU back in (don't forget the heatsink)

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

the manual doesnt tell me what any of the lights mean on the mobo. i did a benchmark test with just the psu connected to the graphics card, the main connector with it's little addon 4 pin thing, the two 4 pin cpu connectors, one ram stick on, the cpu and it's sink on. same result

Did you re-seat the CPU first?

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

The lights are usually GPU and RAM, so make sure your using good RAM, and reseat it on the main board. test it in another machine if you can, try one stick at a time, same with the video card. Does your PC have a system speaker installed? if not, get one and see if the main board is beeping at you.

And make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the correct fan header, and the 4/8 pin CPU power connector is plugged into the main board.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

I'd have to agree with GMS on this one with regards to the CPU or Memory being to being the problem. I'm some-what familiar with this board layout but I can't honestly rememeber for the life of me where those lights are at.  Can you tell me where on the board below you see them? BTW GMS, the MoBo does have a speaker on it. Does removing the system memory and trying to post the system cause it to beep? Some systems do so I figured I'd ask.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Yea, if you boot with no RAM the main board should scream bloody murder. If it doesn't beep with no ram installed, I'd be worried about the main board.  Same with the video card.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if it does not beep without the memory would that not indicate that it could be an issue with the memory controller? And aren't those still buitl into the CPUs or did intel finally put the memory controllers on the MoBo for 700+ series boards? I know back in the day that was the case. Granted it could still be the board but looking into the cpu wouldn't hurt either. As long as he gets his system up and running asap who cares right? :-D

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

Alright, so I've tried to re-seat the CPU and it was in correctly to start with. I was skeptical about applying new paste, but I did not have any around as of now.

    Everything is connected fine.

I am going to post it again without the system memory to see if I hear any beeping. I didn't hear anything at all whatsoever when I hit the power switch button on the motherboard to try and turn it on.

My video card has been used on a separate system a few weeks ago and is fine. So I've kind of narrowed it down to the power supply or the motherboard itself being the problem. though I am still going to try to post it without the RAM right now.

EDIT: Alright so again, I've had everything connected. The PSU's main connector and the two 4 pin CPU1/CPU2 ones in. that blue light comes on again indicating that the power is on. the PSU gives enough power to turn that blue light on. Then when I hit the power switch to turn everything on, nothing turns on at all. Only a yellow light does almost indicating that it's on standby? or some sort. The speakers are hooked up to the mobo just in case if I could hear any kind of beep, but nope. nothing is heard. Same result with 1 stick of RAM. same result with NO sticks of RAM in. all attempts with the GPU in. =/ I am going to try the system later on today with a different power supply so I will again update this later again today.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

alright, the problem was the power supply. i ended up getting a new 600w one so now everything works. the only problem is this feint sound i hear after powering it down.. its like a small squeaking sound that goes on and on. any idea on what it could be? it sounds like its coming from the blue light that is always on.. i dont want to be switching it off from the back every single time i want to sleep.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

That certainly doesn't sound good. I would try yet another PSU just incase that one is putting out some kinda alien voltage. if it still does it after that maybe the main board.

Thats a very rare thing to happen, very odd to.

Re: Newly Built PC Won't turn on.

The sound doesnt sound noticable anymore as there are other things running around me, and everything works fine now. Though I did have my graphics card driver screw up my comp for a bit -_-. had to reinstall it and remove some programs. everything's fine now except for the control panel for nvidia isnt working. keeps shutting down and gives an error message. oh well, i'll fix that another time. thanks for the help all. =] problem resolved.
