    Internet connectivity issues

So my internet keeps randomly disconnecting or saying "low connectivity". I basically need ideas on how to this. I tried disabling my firewall(the windows firewall) and i also tried plugging my computer directly into the modem instead of into the router but that didnt work. Oh, and its my computer thats disconnecting because all of the bar things on my router are working but yet i cant connect.

    Re: Internet connectivity issues

Start with simple things like power cycling modem/router, checking connections then on your computer open command dialog box (Start > Run (or search for Vista) > "cmd" > Enter). Now you should have a black box with white text (MS-DOS like ;-)) and type in it "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" - this will clear your IP/DHCP stuff then renew it so if that doesn't work, we can move into more 'drastic measures' like ARP, IPv4 configuration among others.

    Re: Internet connectivity issues

Oh i also tried another computer in my house and it wasnt able to connect either, as well as to xbox live. The disconnection is on and off and it disconnects all the computers in my house at random times and then comes back up again. I am guessing this is a problem with my internet and not my computer so i think i will call my service provider.

So its not my computer or my modem ive ruled those out.

Sounds like the DHCP server in the Router may be having issues.

Manually configure the network adapters instead.

IP address = unique to each host PC in the last Octet. the most common eggxample is  192.168.1.x  [where x is between 2-254, 1 will typically be the Default Gateway Router IP addrss. The number used MUST be unique to each host PC.]  Look-up the Default Gateway on a PC that is working.

subnet mask = same on all machines (usually  255.255.255.0  )

Default Gateway = same on all machines

DNS primary server = same on all machines (use the "default gateway" IP address.)
