    changing minds...8750 x3...9950x4

okay...so i dumped all the intel ideas for my build..(for now anyway)

and im lookin in the the phenom series...and i like the 8750 and the 9950

both come with a good combo deal(seems like) on newegg with an msi mobo...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130210..8750 and board for $188.99 and the 9950 for $214.99...but here are a few questions:

    • Is the 9950 worth it for the extra $25? seems like its a good OC...but ive read good things about the 8750
    • Is the MSI mobo a good mobo for either proc? Such a deal on newegg makes me warry of it.

I really wanted to wait til black friday but the more I look at all the new tech that I dont have the more order happy I get. I am tempted just to order the proc, mobo and ram slap it all together in my old setup and go to town.

Then when black friday comes along I'll order all the other stuff i need for my new rig and have two rigs?

what does everybody think about that?

9950 is great bang for bucks I don't see any reason why you don't get it.

maybe it is not to get a 790FX motherboard or 790GX
so the MSI motherboard will be fine.

well since im not running 64 bit vista do you think the 9950 is just overkill?

id hate to buy something and not be able to get the full potential out of it...(i plan on gettin 64 bit...but no timeframe yet)

i seen reviews and post on how the X2 get more usage out of windows? or am i mistaken

Nice catch with the combo deal. I think an ASUS motherboard has one as well. What are you using it for? If it's just the general usage, I don't think it'll make a huge difference. However, for games and heavy multimedia like video encoding, it might.

The 8750 has an advantage: it's 95W versus 125W for the 9950. That means different things to different people

I have had good luck with MSI, but personally I prefer companies like ASUS, Abit, and DFI. The thing about that board: the chipset isn't the latest. There's a newer AMD chipset that's out, so that could explain the lower motherboard cost. Also, I know about the ASUS deal because I just built an 8750 system. The new chipset lets your CPU be overclocked more. However, the cost of going to the higher chipset from the combo deal would have been a significant part of the cost of a new video card.

I also don't think that 32-bit vs 64-bit will be a big deal yet. You'll probably be fine with 32-bit, though 64-bit has a few advantages.

    jrp.

yeah...i really like the 8750...and it wil be used for gaming mostly....dotn know how hardcore gaming yet...i work to much so thats TBD...no video encoding tho...just a normal pc basically...with high gaming abilities

and yeah ive always been a more asus fan than msi...but they cost the same...and i was under the impression they had the chipset..ima have to double check...and i do play around with OC'ing so i mite just end up with the asus as well
