Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

I just received a PC Chips A15G (V1.0) AM2+/AM2 Nvidia GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard and everything seems to work fine except for the fact that when I turn my computer moniter on it says no signal and goes into standby mode. I've tried plugging my moniter into my video card and the onboard video with the same results. I know the moniter works because I tried it with the motherboard that I replaced and it works fine.

First step is to reset the CMOS sensor. You should find the ability to do so in the manual; it is generally in the form of a jumper with a small plastic cap atop two of the three pins. Read the manual to figure out how to do this properly.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

I've had mobo shorts knock out the video signal,so it would be smart to build outside the case, first thing and remove the possibility. I've also had a number of PC Chip boards come defective answore them off a long time ago, so you may want to keep that in mind.

What memory are you using? Is it rated for higher than 1.8v?

Of course try and reseat everything and give it a shot, report back.

When you tried the monitor on the onboard video port, did you take the video card out first? Installing a video card may automatically disable the onboard video, even if its bad.

    Installed mobo with standoffs?

Plugged in 4/8 pin CPU power?

    CPU HSF plugged into CPU_FAN?

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

Yes, when I did try the onboard video I removed my video card first and still no luck.

I did install the mobo with standoffs. For some reason when I plugged in the 4 pin CPU power the computer started up then shutdown 1 minute later. But when it started I still did not get anything on the moniter. CPU HSF is plugged into CPU_FAN.

I tried building it outside the case with the same results. I'm using K-Byte memory. 2 sticks of 512MB memory.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

The powers on 1 min then shuts off suggests thermal and/or power issues.

I'd also check to see if mobo requried a BIOS update to support that CPU.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

Well I discovered why the computer was shutting off after 1 minute when I plugged in the cpu power. On the heatsink there was a little bit of packaging on the bottom that I didn't see when I first put it in and it wasn't letting the bottom of the heatsink touch the CPU. After I removed it the computer stayed on, but still no picture on the moniter. I'm starting to think that I just was unlucky enough to recieve a bad motherboard. I think I may have to return it to Newegg.

So does anybody think that I should just have them send me another one of these mobos or should I request a refund and look for another brand. I can't really go much higher than what this board costs so what should I do?  Any advice would be appricated and thank you for your help so far.Smile

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

AMD CPU's are *VERY* sensitive to heat damage. There's a strong changce you've thermally destroyed your CPU after repeated power on's like that.

Test the Mobo with a different CPU, make sure you have a good seat on the heat sink.

Test everything outside of the case on a workbench setup (stack Mobo on non conductive surface, and plug everything in).

There is a small chance the video card not being powered will do this as well. Try again with and without a external video card installed, and get into BIOS and re-enable the on-board video and test without video card, if possible.

ALWAYS make sure you have a strong seat between CPU and heat sink, modern CPU's *REQUIRE* heat sinks for a reason, they will "burn up" without one.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

Memory being unseated is a common problem with no display on the monitor. Try reseating the memory (test one at a time if possible).

Next, reset the CMOS again, remove the discrete video card so that On-board video is the default again, plug cable into Onboard instead of video card, make sure solid connection exists between CPU-heatsink (apply more thermal paste IF you have any otherwise do not dare remove the Heatsink from the CPU).

What was the leftover packaging, how much was it and did it have physical damage (burn marks, etc...) and did it smell then when you tried turning the computer on. Depending on the circumstances and if the motherboard supports instantaneous shutdown due to processor overheating, that is why the whole system shut down.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

I tried reseating one at a time and got the same results as before. I've reset the CMOS removed the video card and still get no picture on the moniter. There were no burn marks on the packaging, the cpu looked fine and there was no burn smell when I truned the computer on.

Re: Motherboard starts but cannot see anything

here don't need to be burn marks for a cpu to be thermally dead.
