New Gigabyte Boards.... UD3P cheaper than UD3R...

The UD3R is the lower model, but I want it because of the PCI slot arrangement.  But it being $5 more expensive than its big brother (with the promo code and AR) just makes me feel like I would be an i***t for buying it.

The UD3R is $119.99 with a $15 rebate, making it $104.99 in the end.

The UD3P is $129.99 with a $20 rebate, making it $109.99 in the end.

Is there some sort of promo or something I don't know about? Because from what I see, the UD3R is actually the cheaper one...

Thanks, didn't see the promo code anywhere.

Well, the only difference I see between the two is that the UD3P has a second PCI-E slot instead of a third PCI slot. Are you going to be using up all 3 PCI slots, or do you not need all 3 there? If you're ok with getting the UD3P, you have the option for a 2nd video card in the future.

I'm getting the Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo for my HD 4870 and it covers two PCI slots, leaving me with 1 if I use the UD3P and 2 if I use the UD3R.  If it's possible to sneak a wireless card under the turbo fan then the UD3P might work.

Every bit of input lag bugs me so I'm avoiding multi-gpu set ups for now anyways.

I guess I could just get a sound card that uses a PCI e slot instead of a PCI slot?

Hmm, ok. Well, it sounds like the UD3R is the best choice for your use. If the UD3P isn't what you're looking for, then don't worry about its price. You could wait a couple weeks to see if any decent sales happen on the UD3R (maybe Black Friday?), and if nothing comes up, just go ahead and get it. But don't buy a different motherboard just because it's $5 or $10 cheaper if it isn't going to suit your needs properly, IMO.

But yes, you could look for PCI-E x1 cards instead of PCI cards, if you feel you might make use of the 2nd PCI-E x16 slot. But if you're not going to use it, don't bother with that motherboard then.
