    Logitech 5300 THX system?

Ive seen listings for Logitech 5300s with a THX certification and ones without it. Is it the same model just with people listing them differently or were the THX approved ones an actual upgrade over the original design? The prices seem to be identical (Im looking at picking up a used set).

    Thanks for any info!

The Z5300s are no longer made and was replaced by the Z-5500 Digital. Yes the Z5300 was THX certified as long as the sound card was as well.

The egg has them in stock, but they are expensive. Unless you are an Audiophil (did I spell that right?). I sometimes want what my wife will not let me have.

    Re: Logitech 5300 THX system?

Personally I did allot of looking around getting my new speakers. I went with the Creative Gigaworks G550W, these things are very loud and crystal clear, even all the way up! Personally the logitec Z-5500 didn't come close in sound quality.

Newegg stopped carying them for some reason. Here they are on the Creative site so you can see them. you can also get them with wired rear speakers for about $50 cheeper. (shipping weight is over 50 pounds, lol, so its pricey even to get them shipped to you).

Humm I do not have any issues with my Z-5500 at all. I can also do the same as you can and not have any issues at all.

To be specific, I didn't think the sub woofer on the logitec was quite up to par, the bass wasn't quite clear enough, especially playing heavy metal music.

I thought the Z-5500 was the replacement for the Z-680?

Also, I believe they used the same sub on both the 5500 and 680.   Now I don't know about cranking the heavy metal, but I do know that my sub will happily deal with all the Electronica and Techno I throw at it.

The ultimate computer speakers were the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers.  However, they had a tendency to be hit or miss on reliability.  But the sound was the best I had ever heard come from computer speakers.  The Logitech Z-680 was a close second.  Have not heard the Z-5500's yet.

    Re: Logitech 5300 THX system?

That is what I thought as well Duckman that it replaced the 680, but I did ask them at CES about that and at the time the 5300 was still out. They said that the 5500 will replace the 5300. Yes the 680 is the same sub as the 5500 and the 5300 they have not really changed that too much except the RMS and Watts. The 680 was a kick a** set up as well.

True Logitech does not sound well with heavy metal. But with Rap, R&B, house, techno, SKA are played they do very well.

Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers <--- that if the person can afforded them. Great setup but last time I did check on those they were close to the $600 range and I was willing to spend up to $400.

    Re: Logitech 5300 THX system?

The price of the Klipsh speaker scared me off as well.  Thats why I purchased the Z-680's.

Sadly, Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 are no longer produced.  Same with the ProMedia Ultras.  But then they also had a rather high failure rate. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 systems are still available though.

    Re: Logitech 5300 THX system?

True that would scare any one off. LOL OK except Bill Gates. The Z-680s are great as well.

Very true that they are no longer made thanks to Ebay they are. LOL

    Re: Logitech 5300 THX system?

    @Modest

I actually own a set of Logitech Z-5300s and let me tell you, some of the best speakers I've ever heard. I work as an Audio-Visual Technician and a musician so I think it is safe to say I am an audiophile and I've yet to hear computer speakers with better range and sound quality. There are obviously 5 satellite speakers in this system each with a 2.5" mid-range driver and a 1" titanium(I think) tweeter in the center. Each satellite also has two air ports in them for better quality and decrease in distortion. The subwoofer is a monsterous twin chamber 10" driver, actually it might be 8". But still one part of it is sealed so that the bass sustains and then there is a ported section to increase the hit of the bass (the port is 6" in diameter); it pretty much has the best of both worlds on the bass side, which reminds me the sub has and amplyfier on the back of it. I believe its 550 Watts and 625 peak so that is some power behind those drivers. It comes complete with a wired remote which adjusts volume, bass level, center level, and fade. It also toggles the sound matrix mode, which makes very negligible differance. There are alot of wires but that comes with the territory of a 5.1 set up. In real life testing with the speakers at 3 ticks (each "tick"= 1 LED light) and my laptop's volume at 40 it more than fills my room with full sound. When really cranking it up (I've owned these for over a year and have never gone to full volume on system and PC for fear of knocking a wall down/breaking a window) to about half volume on the speakers control and full on my PC you can hear them clearly two floors up. Hope that helps you out.
