    Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

That's right, psyched by the Oct 21st release of this projected phenomenal game, and encouraged by the amount of dialogue from his Crysis Warhead thread, ol' Penewah! wanted to start a Far Cry 2 thread so that all that are interested can ask, those who anticipate, can express, and those who play, can report. Personally, I don't go right out and buy games retail at its highest price point. This game I will! It looks awesome.

If you've been in a closet for the past year, here's the beef:

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

Not to mention, FC2 will have the awesome map editor to create and share new creations. If anyone hasnt seen it, check it out. Its really quite impressive how easy it is to use.

I cannot wait until it drops on the 21st. All I need is a better CPU and I should be good to go.

I'm halfway tempted to wait and read the reviews on it, or do some searching around after it drops to see how my specs will measure up with game performance. Anyway, this looks like a great game!

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

Have you considered OCing the CPU, from the stock 1.3v to around 1.35v, you should hit 2.5Ghz, and 2.7 max at 1.40v. That'll certainly help a bit. Though we know all chips crank different on diff mobos.

Great pluck on the map editor! I should have included, here's a trailer, albeit from the console game: Gametrailers.com - Far Cry 2 - GC 2008: Map Editor Trailer ,

Looking forward to that as well!

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

I've spoken to someone who has played this.  And well....  That person was severely disappointed.

Ubisoft released copies of the 360 version of managers of a certain dominant B&M game seller, so that the managers could promote the game and have hands on knowledge for when they sell the game.

I'll leave it at that.  But I suspect this game is going to get torn up in the magazine and webzine reviews.  Which is disappointing.

But feel free to call me a nay-sayer. Stick out tongue

NO, by all means, call it as you see it. Wouldn't be the first game puffed up to stardom, only to let everyone down. I'm certainly going to reserve the right to review until after I kick some saharan booty, but we'll see. The graphics do look pretty sweet though.

Plus, I also tend to think, some games are what we make of them. There's a difference between going into a game full throttle, and taking on the challenge, an popping it on the easiest level and seeing how quick one can get through the entire game. This sort of sets things up for dissappointment as well. SO again, we'll see.

Well what happned? I put in for a pre-order, and the process stated "on-hold" and I would be notified when to send in payment. Never got notified and now the game is OOS!? Wonder if it ever came in? Or did it just jump into OOS for some reason? No biggie, it'll come when it comes, but did anyone get a copy - off NE?

I went to the handy dandy Wal-Mart supercenter today. Not to pick up groceries, or bodywash, but FarCry2. Uh, yea, didnt have it.

Does it SHIP to the retailers today (so it will take a couple days to get there) or does it HIT SHELVES today?

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

    I *love* this game!

This is the first SP game that I have really gotten into in a long time. I struggle to play SP games due to the time commitment and required attention (multi-tasking while playing a good SP game doesn't work out so well).

The MP is also a blast. First MP game I have really enjoyed outside of TF2, L4D, and DODS.

This game looks great, runs great, and is a blast to play.

Check websites before you bother going to a store. I've had this happen too and it's frustrating.

Really looking forward to this. It will probably be the last game I play on my PC before selling it.

REPLY TO DUKMAN: Everyone has a different impression of games. My roommate was unimpressed with Crysis, and I still love the game. But I take his opinion with a grain of salt because frankly, he's not a PC gamer by any means and hasn't been since...UT2K4? Yeah.

But even so, there's already been negative reviews for Fallout 3. I'm not listening to them. I will play for myself and decide.

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

Well I got majorly impatient, and STEAM it. They had $5 off pre-order, so I decided WTH. It was risky, some STEAM games don't fare well on 64-bit Vista, but I can report it installed and plays without issue.

Now to the game play. It's slow going. I only played for about 45 minutes, and I was still being led through intro stuff. Hopefully the carnage will pick up soon! lol.

The graphics seem tight though, and they have indeed, IMO, kept an air of the Far Cry graphics we know and love. The repeated dying scene is a little over dramatic though, you think? LMAO.

So I won't give up any spoilers here, but so far, I'm impressed.

Re: Penewah's Far Cry 2 Thread!

I've found the mouse controls to be REALLY rough. It's not smooth at all and damn near impossible to aim properly. Turned on the smooth mouse setting and that did nothing. It's not my mouse (G5), because it works in every other game and application and it's barely 6 months old. Still giving this game a shot but the mouse movement is making it particularly difficult to do just about anything.

I use a G5 and don't have any problems moving or aiming with it.  The only annoyance I can think of is the super stiff "no-tangle" cord it comes with..  The eye lense thingy isnt dirty or gunky is it?

Anyhow, I've beene eggxperiencing a lot of crashes with Far Cry 2 and it's starting to get irritating.  I have no graphics lag or any sort of graphical or technical problems that would warrant a crash from what I can tell.  The game just boots me to desktop with no error or warning.  I've timed the last few crashes and they all seem to happen exactly one hour apart.  Internal computer temperatures are within normal range as well. I'm currently using a 4870x2 with 8.10 CCC drivers.  (8.10 fixed all of the texture bugs for me though)

Yeah, you definitely go something there Leon. You notice too, you can empty a machine gun clip into one guy, and he'll still be shooting at you, and others guys, you wing a few rounds in, and he flops like a shocked cadaver?

I did the same with the flame thrower. One guy will stand there in a ball of fire shooting at you, and another will cook right up like toast.

All I can think of is that the aim is off on the graphics interpaly.

Have to keep an eye on that one. Maybe send a bug report to support.

One 4850 seems to run it fine for me at 1680x1050, so I',m not losing sleep, but I would have to think, since ATI comes out with many game specific bug fixes for each new CCC release , they'll certinyl get reports and add some bug fixes to upcoming drivers. pene

I think I found the issue.  It dosn't happen everytime but I've noticed a few graphical artificats before the game crashes.  I checked my video card and it's hitting around 75+ celcius.  Getting to hot?  I'd be suprised if this is the issue because it's not the most graphically intense game.

75 under load is not bad for a gpu. normally a gpu can get up to the high 90s and even into the 100's before it will start to malfunction.
