I have a PCG-FRV37 that did a tour in Iraq with me, and it is now showing the effects. Have already replaced the HD and maxxed out the RAM, but now the DVD drive has took a dump. It is a Panasonic UJ-810B. I would like to know of some suitable replacements...and it would be nice to upgrade in the process, such as DL capability...and maybe slot load.

New 120G Seagate HD, 1G RAM, Windows XP Pro

I had looked at several possible replacements such as the Samsung that you listed, but some of the IDE connectors seem to be different. I was hoping to run across someone who could tell me of an "exact" replacement (at least as far as the connector goes). Sony's Tech Support was no help except in that they would sell me a replacement drive for $295.

Ouch $295 add another $300 - $500 to it and you have a better laptop. Can you take a pic of the IDE connection on yours if at all possible?

Yea...that's exactly what I thought !!! I couldn't put a pic on here, but I noticed that you use photobucket so I joined. Here is the link. It's not the best pic, but it's the best I could get so far. It's hard to get the camera to focus on the connector itself, even set to macro. I really appreciate your help !!

Yep that is how the screw people is by doing that. I can make out the pic not a problem at all. BTW the Samsung and your pic the IDE is the same just taken at a different angle is all. I know very confusing when looking at the object physically and one in a PIC at times.

OK...I'll try the Samsung then. It is rated pretty high on Newegg so it should be a decent upgrade. Thanks alot for all of your help, I'll let you know how it turns out !!
