    DVDRW won't read burned discs.

Anyone ever heard of this?  I've had this LiteOn Dual Layer DVDRW burner for about a year now and suddenly it won't read any burned discs, Windows sees it as a blank disc.  I've had this happen with CDs, DVDs and DL DVDs.  Yet manufacturered discs like movies or the CD that came with the drive, all work fine.  Although I just tried a movie and it played fine in VLC, but WMP complained that it wouldn't play because of a "problem with digital copy protection between the DVD drive, decoder, and video card" and suggested I update my video card drivers.

     This is the drive:

OK here's a new one.  I updated my video card drivers as suggested, though I haven't rebooted yet, and WMP doesn't give me that error any more with a movie, instead it says on the screen "This player is incompatible with the region marking on this disc."

Do you know how to check the region of the drive? I doubt it could be changed on it's own, but if it was I guess that could cause some of your problems?

Really though, update the firmware if the region's right, then if you can't get it to work, bin it and get a new one. They're not that expensive now a days.

I just checked, it's Region 1 (correct) and has 4 changes left.  I'll look into the firmware update.  I'd hate to "bin it" since it's only a year old and barely used.

Yeah that would suck, but it's not like it's the olden days where burners cost $70 a piece, they're only like $25 for a cheap one.

Try testing it under odd conditions, like running Linux off a Live-CD that you burned (from a computer that you know the burner works on). You could also get a spare hard drive and try to install an OS that's install media is a burnt DVD (Vista, larger distros of Linux).
