    Changing default browser

I am having a bit of trouble here trying to change my default browser. All normal methods such as set program acess and defaults, and choosing default within that browser have failed. I am currently using opera as my default browser, and I wish to switch to Safari. I can however get this to work half way. By changing Safari to the default it will open when i click on a link, but opera will also open with this message: www.google.com/Opera.HTML/Shell/Open/Command -. I also get an error message, http://www.google.com; program not found when clicking a link in aim, and then it wants me to choose an application to open the link, i choose safari but it still does not work. google is my homepage for opera. I have tried editing registry settings but I think i'm still missing something. Any thoughts?

    Re: Changing default browser

    check the File associations.

Click -Start-, then "my computer", then click -tools-, -folder options-

When the "folder options" window opens, click the -file types- tab.

scroll-down a couple of pages, then press HTM and HTML....the "Details for xxx extension" shows "opens with: what ?"

if it's not what you want, press the [change] button, and locate the program on your hard drive.

You may also 'customize' things by clicking the "advance" button, choose an "action" to edit, (e.g. OPEN,) and then -edit-

    Re: Changing default browser

I figured it out. The browser you want to be your default must be installed on the C drive as far as I know. I tried setting firefox as my default, which was installed on a different drive, caused me problems. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it on the C drive and was able to set it as my default with no problems. Hope this helps anyone with a similar problem.

    Re: Changing default browser

really? I don't think so. cos I use firefox+IE I installed firefox on D drive and it is still the default browser.but I think some certain programs are designed to open in a preferred browser. each time I log in AIM, it will open IE browser although FF is my default browser.
