First make sure you've installed file and printer sharing for the new computer. Make sure your joined to the same workgroup/domain and you have enabled file/print sharing in windows.
To install file/printer sharing:
1. Start > Settings > Control Panel
2. Double Click "Add or Remove Programs"
3. Click button on left hand side of window labeled "Add/Remove Windows Components"
4. Box opens up, you want to scroll down to "Other Network File and Print Services" and look for "File and Printer Sharing"
5. Make sure that is checked, if not check it and click next...finish the wizard to install the service.
Try installing the printer drivers from the network source;
Uninstall ALL drivers that you've installed thus far....use add/remove programs in "control panel". Remove the device from device manager. Delete all printers from "printers and faxes" in windows. Restart the machine.
Open task manager make sure no HP services (related to the printer) are running, if they are find them and uninstall. Restart if you make any changes.
Now to install the correct drivers.
You shouldn't need CD or downloaded drivers if the printer is already installed with one or more computer using the printer on a network.
Open "printers and faxes" in control panel (or from start menu/settings/printers and faxes) should be blank except for "add printer" icon.
Double click to "add printer".
Click Next at the welcome screen.
In the next window Select bottom button "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer".
Click Next
In this window select first button "Find a printer in the directory" or if you know the exact location use the second button "Connect to this printer" and type in the exact address. I'm assuming you did the first.
Click Next
Another box will pop up. Click "browse" and as long as you have file/printer sharing service installed on the machine you should see the printer in a windows explorer like directory tree.
Select the printer and click OK
It should then inform you of the danger of installing drivers from an unsecure source....say OK and let it install the drivers.
Finish and let it set the printer to default
Try printing a small test page from the computer.
OK, so what this should have done is told windows to install on the new machine the same drivers the printer has for all the other machines that are working. This way if it dosen't work after this, you know it's an issue with the new machine.
Hope that helps you. Good luck
That's what she said...
