    Re: Poll:What do u value when choosing a MP3?

I've always based my decisions on capacity, functions/options, and ease of use, and on top of that I'll throw in value (not to be confused with price).  I want to be able to hold all the songs, without overpaying for space I don't need, I want to be able to use it one handed so I can do other things, and changing songs shouldn't take all my attention.  It should be able to play in order or shuffle, and should be able to sort at least by author/album; custom playlists are nice extra though not a deal-breaker.  On the value line, I don't care what the price is, as long as it is in line with the features (which pretty much throws out all iPod products).  I consider in the price/value all ownership costs, including the cost of purchasing desired peripherals, though usually not headphones since I'll always use my own pairs.  User-serviceable batteries are pretty important here since if a player needs to be sent in to have the battery changed, it is not only a huge inconvenience but adds significantly to the cost as well.

My top 3 options to buy a MP3 player would be function, price and tonal quality.

Next it would go to design, capacity and brand. Besides, I would very much like it if the MP3 player has comfortable and sensitive buttons.

    Re: Poll:What do u value when choosing a MP3?

From the choices that u have given here, my top three will be function, brand, and design.

Besides, I still care about audio formats, and the e-book function.

It’s really inconvenience to convert format whenever I download songs, so it should support

different formats as much as possible.

The other one is E-book function, because of working reasons, I often need review

documents on my way home/ to office, this is the reason why I care about his function.

Tonal quality is top factor for me to buy a mp3. After that, I will consider the function.

    Re: Poll:What do u value when choosing a MP3?

Rockboxability (see http://www.rockbox.org) is what I first look for. If the player is not rockboxable, then ability to play flac and sound quality are the most important to me. A player not simply accessible as a USB MSC device is also fully unacceptable. However, I still ended up with a 30 gb zune as a secondary player as it was only $85 when I got it (quite cheap for that time) - not worth even that IMHO due to its disastrously poor software.

    Re: Poll:What do u value when choosing a MP3?

No one  mentioned the ability to bookmark. I use my mp3 player to listen to audio books so I want one that will be able to pick back up where I left off. Nothing worse than listening to a 17 hour book and having to fast forward for 10 hours to get back to where you last stopped. Also true of listening to podcasts. Also has to have a screen that is readable in sunlight and the dark.
