Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Since I exceeded the 500 character limit...I'll just comment here instead of having it go to waste.... The main thing of value that I did notice was "Your Essentials"
The printer I bought, what ink does it use?....There it is in my essentials. What about a replacement battery for my camera?...There it is.
It's a very nice feature.
Other than that, I doubt I'd be looking at what Newegg Recommends or Recommendations Based on my wish list.
When the times comes to me needing something, I already know what I need, so I browse for it. Majority of people don't buy things when they don't 'need' or really want them.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Sorry sj1 but I have to go with Sergei on this 1, I prefer to do my own research and don't like following the crowd. It does look like it would be good for the newbies but us old pro's no way.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Reminds me of another site that is named after a river in South America. To me, and this is just me, it seems a bit too intrusive and presumptuous, but I am sure some people will love it. When I shop for tech, I know what I am looking for, what I need and would like to have.
QX9650, P5E Deluxe, Zalman CNPS9700, EVGA GTX260 SSC edition connected to a Samsung T260 & Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW, 4GIG G.Skill DDR2-8500, 2 VelociRaptors in RAID 0, Corsair 750W PSU, ASUS SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe all wrapped in a Cooler Master RC-1000 running Vista Ultimate 64bit.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Hey, look at that, when it recommends the Zalman 9700 as an accessory to my processor I don't have to put it in my cart to see the real price.
I do like the premise but so far it isn't really recommending anything of value. Most of the items it reccomends are things I either have already bought (my processor), or things I have no need for becuase of something else I bought (3 other processors I looked at). It makes me laugh a little that Arctic Silver 5 is listed as a recommendation in "Accessories For Your Recent Purchases" for every single item in there, case, processor, ram.... Vista.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Question 1
how do [edit "would"] i get to "mynewegg" when I log into newegg? I don't see a link anywhere. maybe I am just blind. A link in "my account" would be handy.
Question 2
How does it get recommendations? I see I was recommended under "top sellers for you" Xbox games even before I logged into newegg.com. I did have an xbox in my cart to email to someone so is that based on my IP address or are Xbox games just top sellers? I wonder because there is also above that after I logged in - a "recommend based on your wish list." Just wondering if top sellers is based on IP address/cart - wish list or if they are just actual top sellers.
Question 3 will i have the option to have combo deals and specials recommend? That would make it worth while.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Like I said in the comments on the survey: Awesome idea... this would be great for the first page that I visit when going to newegg, however, I would much rather see Daily Deals in the space taken by the 'recommended stuff'. Although this helps a lot for stimulating shopping--I would never have thought about buying a LCD screen protector for my camera unless it was listed in my 'accessories for your recent purchases' box--I just don't see myself using it that much. What I love about it though is that the wish list etc. is a lot more easily accessible on the right hand side, rather than down at the bottom of the page.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Nice idea but needs a lot of improvements. Like showing you accessories that you didn't buy on the same order or soon after. As well as applicable accessories for the product (didn't know a CPU cooler, thermal grease, and a power supply were accessories for a monitor).
Good idea but needs to expand a lot more.
Party on through the night, work dont matter, lol

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Since I also exceeded the 500 characted limit: I thought that while the idea was good overall it definitely needs some refining. I really like the categories that you have, especially the accessories for things you have already purchased. The problem here is that when you look at this category all the recommendations are very similar. Also it does not take into account things already purchased. For example for every single item it was recommended that I purchase Arctic Silver 5. I already purchased this so I think it would be much better if it could eliminate suggestions that you had already purchased. Another section that I would add would be a section that shows recommendations based on my recently viewed products. For example I am looking at 9800GX2 video cards right now. If the recommendations could know that based on my 3 recently viewed items and show me some 9800GX2 options it would be more beneficial to me. This would by no means be the end all decision for me as I too like to research products before I buy them but I would be eyecatching and a nice place to start. Also if somehow it could alert me as to new deals on products I have recently viewed that would be a very helpful addition
Overall I applaud neweggs effort on this but it definately needs some finishing. Keep up the good work though

coolbob222:For example for every single item it was recommended that I purchase Arctic Silver 5.
I get the same thing, on every item (including my keyboard, mouse, and headset...), and I just bought some AS5 in my last order. (ok, it isn't every item, it doesn't recommend it with the AS5 itself) I like the concept, but your suggestion algorithms could use some work

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
I really like the Newegg Recommends. It's a quick way to see Deals that are relevent to me and faster than going through the layers of Newegg to see any new deals for items. Also the accessories thing is cool, it allows you to see products that can help your product experience. It's cool!

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
Let me make a suggestion. The personalization is "OK" .....but what if you could get recommendations as you are researching ...or buying. So when you are looking at a MB....have a "View compatible CPUs " or "View recommended CPUs" button or "View similar products (MBs)".
When you are looking at a CPU...or adding it to your cart...why not offer a "View compatible heat sink fans" or "View recommended heat sink fans". I spent a lot of time sorting through HSFs (prior to joining eggxpert). Hope that makes sense....or at least gets me an XL T shirt
Don't stop trying...that's how you succeed. Peace Homer

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
it is very nice. but, i probably would not use it. it doesn't really give anything "special". just some accessories or upgrades to a recent purchase, etc. it is hard to explain, but there isn't really anything "special" about it. i can find the same info searching myself.

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
keep going, it would be cool to see some heuristics on different buyer profiles based on needs you could input (i.e. gaming, media, server, etc). Something like that might take a while to see useful results until the data builds up.
work on filtering the proper items though, like others I noticed a CPU cooler recommended for a graphics card. Some people might buy it and get mad then it doesn't fit.
The same for the AS5 grease. I can see someone putting it on their keyboard or Windows DVD because you recommended it. I have a feeling if I bought a microwave from newegg it would recommend the grease too, lol.

I like the suggestions in here, especially about the recommendations while browsing. Also, what about a section for your active price alerts for example? I would like to see the price they are at, along with the discounts and such, and what they could be had for. Just more thoughts. And also lol about the AS5 for a PSU .
Just needs some tweaking!

Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey
It sure does like to recommend AS5 for everything even a pci wireless card I purchased. I think its kind of neat but probably will not log into it very much, since when I need something I pretty much know what I need and go directly too it. and since when do I need an arctic freezer 64 for my memory.
