    GDDR5 memory frequency

Some people have been confused about ATI Radeon HD4870 (X2)'s memory speed due to GDDR5 configurations. DDR to GDDR4 are double rate, producing 2 bits for every clock. GDDR5 doubles this, giving 4 bits to every clock. This gives HD4870 (at stock settings) a base frequency of 900MHz and a transfer rate of 3.6Gb/s.

    Hi, Mom!!

hey, ATI keeps on using new stuff...what can you do about it? (not that anyone on the red team want to)

Not to mention that GDDR5 is approximately twice as fast as GDDR3 with twice the bandwidth.

oh my, this is just a good reminder that people should really do some research and read up on things before they start spending cash or posting replies about new tech they do not know about yet.   Thanks MrBGeeked

    Re: Hi, Mom!!

Great thread, I would just like to say thanks to GDDR5 we get the ridiculous comparison of the GTX260 to the HD4870...it has almost TWICE the  and memory size and interface. lol. Just makes me laugh but guess we need something to compare to Nvidia. Ne1 have any benchmarks for the difference in the HD4870 512MB and 1GB? Sometimes there is not much of a performance difference but in my 8800GT I saw a drastic change between my 512 and 1GB!

I see those comparisons between the cards all the time but now they know better.

Very true! Research is definitely needed no matter what project is taken on.

Yep. Most people just expect to be able to hop into something like this and just get disapointed.
