Multiple drive controller cards in one system

I know that the old Promise cards used to freak out if there was more than 1 in your system. I'm thinking of getting an SATA controller for a PC that has an EIDE controller in it. How are the controller cards (both PCI and PCIe) about having more than 1 in a system? I was looking at the Rosewill cards since I don't really need anything fancy.

PC #1: nForce Mobo (Socket A) + Promise EIDE running Win2k. I'm looking at putting in an SATA controller, or maybe replace the promise with the Rosewill combo controller. Yeah, it's old, but it also doesn't have any onboard SATA

PC #2: one listed, no other drive controller, but also kinda curious about both Rosewill and if I ever need to add any more controllers to a PC in the future. I could use an EIDE controller since it's an upgrade from a system with 4 EIDE drives and the motherboard only has 1 EIDE port. Also, I like the idea of having an eSATA port in this system (obviously the internal SATA port in this case isn't as important since the mobo has 6 of them)

Card for PC #2 (and maybe #1 as well): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132009

Humm that is a good question, I know that if RAID is enabled the cards usually do not like that at all. But I don’t see a issue with newer hardware today. However your #1 and 2 PC are old so it might have issues.

I don't think the Phenom build is THAT old (Socket AM2+), even though it's not the latest chipset.

However, I don't see it as a motherboard issue as much as hard drive controllers getting along.

Re: Multiple drive controller cards in one system

I contacted both Rosewill and SYBA's tech support, and here's what they said:

Rosewill: "We have many models can be used in the same computer and will not cause the conflict. We are wondering if you can confirm with us how many HDDs you want to use. Please also let us know they are SATA or PATA HDDs. And then, we will be able to give you a best recommendation."

SYBA:  "Due to the same bios, you can not use two identical controllers into one system. It will cause the conflict."

So, possible with Rosewill, but not possible with SYBA. Oddly enough, I noticed that some Rosewill and SYBA models share the same chipset
