    Update firmware for Lite-On DH-401S

Okay, so I ordered the Lite-On Blu-Ray DH-401S from NewEgg, everything is fine.  Installed the drive it plays DVDs, CDs fine, I even backed up I Am Legend and I, Robot Blu-Ray to my hdd with no problems.  Okay, I receive Kung Fu Panda from Netflix put it in the Blu-Ray drive and nothing happens.  The drive attempts to read and I hear 2 clicks then the blue light in front goes out and nothing happens.  I go into My Computer and try to open and I get a messege that says, "insert disc".  I insert a CD and DVD to see if it still reads those, and it does, so it has to be the disc......

I went to the Lite-On site to see if my firmware needs to be updated and it does, the firmware my drive has now is CP54, the new firmware is CP56.  So I download it and unzip it, right click to run as an administrator and nothing happens.  I wait a few minutes(like 10) and still nothing happens, I go into the task manager and I see the CP56 in the task manager so something is happening, the description is Xflash(whatever that is).  I'm pretty sure the once I upgrade my firmware the drive will be able to read Kung Fu Panda, but how do I upgrade my firmware?

    I'm running: Vista Home Prem 64-bit, Asus P5E-VM HDMI(latest bios), Q6600 @ 3.1Ghz, ATI HD4850, 4GB Crucial DDR2, Power DVD 7.3(oem), Any DVD HD(ver. 6485)

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

When you double click the EXE file does it give you a error at all?

No, my computer does nothing, but like I said when you open the task manager you will see it running.

Re: Update firmware for Lite-On DH-401S

I'll just chalk it up as the disc having an error and wait for another Blu-Ray movie to come out.  If I have the same problem I'll do a clean install of Vista 64-bit, if the problems persist then I'll just RMA the drive for an LG or better yet a Sony!!!! Yea

Try disabling UAC all together and see if it will execute. If not and after you reinstall Windows then yes definitely RMA for another drive.

Re: Update firmware for Lite-On DH-401S

I disabled the UAC as you stated and still the same thing, I truly believe the drive is fine and it's just a half-a** firmware update from Lite-On.  I do also know that the way the Blu-Ray discs are encoded and written to disc has changed so that requires manufacturers to update their drives to read the discs correctly.

Actually I'll go out and get Transformers or Spiderman 3 from Blockbuster tonight, if those don't play then I'm RMAing this thing back to NewEgg tomorrow for a Sony or something else.

     Thanks for all your help.

Re: Update firmware for Lite-On DH-401S

It could be that is why I like my Samsung there is a auto updater that is has for firmware over the net and has not failed me once. But that is straight DVD R/RW.

I have not dealt with BR as of yet and don’t plan to until the price drops for both the player and the movies.

    Not a problem.
