    4870x2 Status Problem

I've been looking at my GPU's utilization trying to monitor performance to see if i can clock closer to stock to reduce temps a bit lately, but whenever I look at either AMD OverDrive or CCC the gpu is stuck reporting at 524%..... It doesnt matter if i'm running Crysis or staring at my background, it's constantly reading 524....and yes it's reading 524 that isnt a typo. I did not mean 24% or 52%....524. Any ideas for resolving this issue?

Edit: I also noticed AMD overdrive is reporting GPU0 at 0 mhz and GPU1 at 507 Mhz (should be 650mhz) but utilization for GPU1 is at 0%

There's also a 12C degree difference in GPU temps, the only thing reporting properly is the voltage...

    Any ideas?

Have you tried updating drivers? Redownloading CCC or OverDrive?

    Re: 4870x2 Status Problem

All of the above. I have latest drivers for card and latest version of CCC. Went through and updated latest for my mobo as well.

The performance readings are being more fickle now, it sometimes reads utilization correctly for GPU0 now but GPU1 is still reading inactive at all times and GPU0 reads 0 mhz

It's kind of a long shot, but make sure the video card isn't touch a heatsink pipe on the motherboard. Some people have reported problems with video cards making contact with these pipes and I sort of wonder if that's causing goofy readings. Like I said, it's a long shot, but who knows.

    Re: 4870x2 Status Problem

It's a known issue in CCC and ATI sucks @ drivers.

Before I bought my very expensive 4870 X2, I was using an 8800 GTX that had served me well for over a year. Occasionally nvidia had a bad driver release, but they were very active with their community and they had a tendancy to fix their mistakes in an expedient manner.

When I went with the ATI card, I was encouraged by some forum posts saying that ATI had stepped up their driver quality and that the ATI driver problems were a thing of the past. We are now into the 4th driver release since the 48xx series came out and I can say, without any hesitation, that in terms of performance AND stability, the CCC 8.11 and accompanying driver are worse than the 8.10 CCC release, and possibly the 8.9 also. ATI does not acknowledge any problem and really doesn't say much of anything. And we have yet another month to hope that the next driver release will fix the issues that we're currently having with previous drivers. It's absolutely intollerable. This will be the last time ATI or AMD gets a dime from me and it brings me no joy to say that because I'm the kind of person who thinks competition is a good thing. Unfortunately AMD does not seem to understand that it's in competition with anybody.

    Re: 4870x2 Status Problem

Well the thing is until nVidia releases a dual gpu card with 2gb memory I wont be switching it out. The only way to get similar performance to my 2x 4870x2 would be 3 280s which would cost me quite a bit more, since the cards butt up against eachother much more closely, generating more heat. I would have to opt for better cooling instead of staying withmy current air solution. My friend has the 3x 280 gpu setup and it runs about 10-15 degrees warmer idle and about 17 degrees hotter under load, and the performance just doesnt stack up entirely to 4870x2s yet.

Ill personally be waiting for better drivers or the next gen of nVidia cards, what ever comes first.

(Planning on building an i7 computer sometime this summer after prices go down and theres a greater selection of speeds so hopefully the nvidia cards will come out by then)
