    Red Alert 3!

Any one bought Red Alert 3? I just started playing seems very fun. Keep forgetting that each unit has 2nd abilities, and when I do I keep forgetting to change it back when it needs to =P.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

Hey, let me know how stable the game is. I stopped playing C&C after Red Alert 2 because multiplayer Red Alert 2 games often crashed if they were longer than an hour.  Yuri's revenge was even worse with the random  "You've been disconnected" garbage even while playing on a wired LAN.  I bought several copies of RA2 with Yuri's revenge and was quite upset and disappointed at the lack of stability of RA2.. Not only that, but the installer itself would often crash during the CD-Key entry part of RA2 if you didn't defrag your hard drive recently..  So after spending several hundred dollars in copies of RA2 and Yuri's revenge that worked like poo, I'm a bit bitter to say the least.

Warcraft III blows the doors off of RA2 in stability.. So the couple hundred I spent in copies of WC3 and the expansion were worth every penny a thousand times over. Especially because of Defense of the Ancients which I've played year after year and it never gets old.

So the first thing I'm looking at in RA2 above everything else, is how stable the game is, and if it's actually possible to play a long multiplayer game with a lot of players without it crashing.

Looks like the RA3 demo is only a 100 megs or so, so I'll check it out..

    http://files.filefront.com/Red+alert+3+The+Third+War+Demo+v10/;4829561;/fileinfo.html

If it's stable, I'll probably, once again, end up buying a half dozen copies of the game for LAN parties and such.

It's out?!?!?!?! I was just at Best Buy two hours ago, and they only had the presales. Not that I'd buy it there. Though Fallout3 was $10 less than it's been advertised as.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

I think it's fun! Better than C&C3 because it doesn't have a serious tone to it. One tried one game of on-line because still trying to beat the single player. There was some bugs out at launch but I think EA got the main ones fixed (not being able to play on-line). I don't know if it is out in stores, I pre-ordered mine and it came through the mail.

Does it feel too much like Total Annihilation, being able to build nearly everything in the water?

    Re: Red Alert 3!

You can build most things in water. But it allows for nice naval battles, which I enjoy. Just have about one to two more missions left for the Soviets, then it's off to play as Allies! Most units can be used on land and in water so... your not just stuck building a navy if you only have a naval yard.

If anyone remembers from Red Alert 2, did Apocalypse tanks have anti-air missiles? Or am I thinking of Mammoth tanks.

Ah well I guess they took it away in RA3.

The AA on the apocolypse tanks in RA2 was really weak anyway, but it took care of the occasional annoying rocketeer.

Beat the Soviets campaign! Now going for the Allies! =P. Fun game! The co-op mode with the AI is funny. I keep telling him to go on suicide runs and he keeps doing it.

LMAO!! Hate to quote myself, but it seems like they screwed up the CD-Key authorization for RA3 just as badly as they screwed it up in RA2..

EA is recommending that people "guess" the last digit in their CD-Key as a work-around.

    Electronic Arts:
Since you have the first 19 characters of the code already, you can basically try guessing the last character," said a note on EA's customer support site.

That's what happens when you put the exact same people on the development of RA3 as you do in RA2, they screw up the CD authentication yet again!  Yea, I'm staying clear away from RA3, I've already been through enough authentication "defrag before install and then if it doesn't install, reboot and try again, and then repeat the whole process if it still doesn't work" garbage of my ownership of RA2.  \

Oh, it sounds like a whole boat load of fun when you'd have 5 purchased and paid for copies of Red Alert 3 to install..

Yah, I think I'll pass and wait for Starcraft II and Warcraft IV... I'm done with the RA series because of this ridiculousness.. They have a right to verify the copy is legit, but when they screw it up so bad it takes all day to install legit and paid for copies of RA on a bunch of computers the night before a lan party, forget it.I can't believe people put up with this after paying so much for the game...

    Re: Red Alert 3!

I didn't have the missing last letter problem, I had the 'Invalid Serial Key' problem. Apparently they said that for the premier editions, they forgot to update their on-line database with the serial keys that were shipped out to the pre-orders.

So I got stuck playing single player. Still haven't beaten yet so don't matter. Going to play on-line when I beat the single player.

But apparently all is fixed now, everything works I can play on-line if I want to.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

I got it and I am sadly disappointed to be honest. It hardly has any content and way too toony. I think the series has gone down hill since C&C 3. generals was amazing and RA2 was awsome, but nothing great since then.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

I didn't like Generals, it didn't have that C&C feel. I like RA3, has the fun in the cut scenes and units and all. Just like all the other RA universe, it's not that serious like the Tiberium universe. I still like Tiberium better though =P, but RA3 isn't bad.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

    Got it the other day.

It is in true C&C form and feel this time around, but whatever happened to the skirmish options of the older games. There are two options - Creates/No Creates and Starting cash.

I love the Empires War Machines, but dislike the new build technique. Too many Steps required for it.

    • Order Building
    • Wait for Con Yard to Build first piece
    • Click on the piece
    • Find a spot
    • Click on spot
    • Wait for First piece to MOVE to spot and finish build

    I like the soviet process

    • Order
    • Find spot
    • Click
    • Build

They make is seem like the bomb diggity, but it SUCKS! Because, I keep forgetting I ordered a build and have had a build just sit there undeployed after an attack. However, it is well worth the extra steps because switching from ground to flight units rocks.

The Allies Shotgun would be better if the second ability were an assault rifle for long distance fighting or at least the old school bunker ability would have been better. The shield is just a waste of time in most instances.

Also, I wish they would have made the Tech Tree notification more intrusive during game play because when I am playing on medium skirmish I get so busy defending positions I forget about the tech tree till I want to bomb something. The Tech Tree is not diverse but in-depth - I miss the tank repairs.

Generals was fun for a bit but the realistic stuff got old, and I hated the terrorist stinger camps. Overall RA3 is pretty cool even though they changed so much in just one generation. But, why not stick with the Chinese?!?! It worked great in Generals. I am very, very surprised they didn't include a delayed start times for the A.I. to follow. I also would have preferred notification of the general I was fighting, after initial enemy contact, to come from my command and not from the enemy themselves. But, whatever! They should have gone all the way and made reaction come from the enemy too after destroying some vital building or something.

I have yet to play the campaign. I always start with skimishes before campaingns because I love the building process. If I ever get online i'll put my info on here.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

Personally, I hate the Empire faction. I don't like how units you have to switch them to flying mode to attack aircraft and then back to attack land. Too much management I guess. I enjoy the original C&C style. Anti-air unit, anti-tank unit, anti-infantry unit. I hardly use the secondary functions =P. Only on the Soviet Bullfrog because parachuting bears... what's not to like!

Sweet statement. the bullfrog is pretty cool but I hate that it only holds five bodies. I miss the major APC's. I don't remember how many they held but the Chinese one was massive.

Today, I played a skirmish on easy - smashed them quickly but not completely - so I could build everything on the soviet side. I had like 7 out post and double the mining plants. The tech tree is great once you get below the surface. I brought down the complete Space Station from orbit on like 100 of my own men and got to try out the Vacumum Canon....which is freaking awesome. It picked up like ten mammoth tanks and made a ball of metal out of them.

I have some on video so I should upload it to youtube and put it on here.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

Yeah trying to play the single player stuck on the Empire missions to capture the 3 radio towers. The computer team-mate sucks too much for me to even continue. It's impossible to play the harder missions without some sort of help from a real team-mate.

    Re: Red Alert 3!

Yup, I am starting to think they put to much emphasis on real person team work. Because, I am on a mission now for the soviet and I have two enemies to fight, one of my own, and the AI team mate sucks.
