    Temperatures unexplainably low, even overclocked.

    I have a Foxconn 946GZ7MA-8KS2H LGA 775 Intel 946GZ Micro ATX Intel Motherboard combined with an Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80557E2180.

     I have the processor overclocked 20%, 2.41GHz.

I have the stock cooler on the CPU, but I do have Arctic Silver 5.

The idle temperature for the CPU is around 77F.

Under stress, like Oblivion maxed out, it will only hit maybe 84F.

The temperatures before the overclock were about the same, and if I overclock my system even more the temperatures might only raise 2-3F at idle. and maybe hit 89F under stress.

I reduced the clock to 2.41GHHz because I felt it would be safe, since I don't seem to have an accurate temperature reading.

I've had this thing to 3.5GHz and still no significant change, seemed to run stable as well. Even under an Everest Ultimate Stress test.

Do I have some kind of miracle computer? Or are my temperature diodes malfunctioning?

Even if I touch the heatsink near the base when its under stress, next to the cpu, it doesn't feel much more than room temperature.

*EDIT* Fixed the thread title, haha :p

You're right, by all indications, it should be hotter. I'd try diff utilities, maybe a bad sensor? (which I'm sure you're assuming. lol)

Kunzy's Utility Thread you'll fond useful apps.

Well, that CPU does not really get all that hot to begin with, so it is possible your readings are ok. As for feeling how hot the heatsink is with your hand; it is very hard to feel the difference in temp that way. Humans do not have very accurate heat receptors, and also your heatsink could just be disapating the heat verry quickly anyway. My heatsink bearly ever gets all that wrm to the touch, but I don't count on that as a measure for core temp. If it is stable it is stable.

haha, i think you meant overclocked in the thread title, not overcocked right?

anyways, are you sure that you are reading it correctly.  Every CPU i have seen reports its temp in C not F.  Make sure you are using the correct units.  Also, check in the BIOS or some tool like CPU-Z and make sure that the clock speed is really what you think it is.

Re: Temperatures unexplainably low, even overcocked.

Check out this article from Tom's hardware:

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pentium-dual-core,1683.html

According to the article, you can overclock these processors up to 3.2GHz while still using the boxed heatsink and fan and make for you're self a really cheap gaming system. Sweet.  Also, most programs allow you to display temps in either F or C; but I would double check that in whatever programs you're using.

    System:

    ASUS F8Va-C1

    14.1" widescreen; Centrino2 (Core2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz); 4GB RAM; 320GB HDD; ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (1GB VRAM dedicated); Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Re: Temperatures unexplainably low, even overcocked.

I agree with mike what software are you using to record the temperature reading?

You might have to use more than one software and the room temperature if possible.

Re: Temperatures unexplainably low, even overcocked.

Haha yeah I meant overclocked. :p

I have CPU-Z, and I have Everest Ultimate Edition, Everest Displays both C and F. (25C 77F, at idle)

The clock speed in Everest, CPU-Z, My Computer, and my Bios all read 2.41GHz which is expected.

Thanks for the replies, and links!

*EDIT* As far as using more than one program to check temps, I used Everest, FoxOne (OEM Software), and I have looked in my bios.
