    Q6600 Cooler

Hello everyone I just got a Q6600 and I need a heat sink so I can make this puppy sing.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835154001 but I am worried about the size.

    I am using this motherboard

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359

As you can tell the northbridge sink is thick SOB about 1 inch - 1 1/2 inch in height so I dunno if it will fit since the fan slides so far down. I think the heatsink will but as far as the fan drops I think it will set on top of it. Not sure though.

To give you a idea for Q6600 users its about 1/3 inch smaller then the stock heat sink in height this is not including the fan but the actual chunk of metal. The stock has just enough room to fit it almost touches the side of the heat sink on both sides so its important to keep in mind. There a site with 100% detailed specs on the size?

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

Will fit just fine, the top portion with fins is tall enough to not contact the chipset coolers. The Heat Pipe Base lifts it up enough to clear any potential contact.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

any idea of the how far it lifts up? Also how far does the fan fall down? It seems like about 1/2 inch or so.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

120mm fan should still clear the northbridge heat sink, however, if you are still worried and need a work around to fall back on, if the fan overhang does conflict with NB cooler, you can dismount the 120mm Tuniq fan and have it "rest on top" of the northbridge cooler and still effectively cool the Tuinq by being "mostly in it".

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

    Hello, Twist

I've orderd the same MB and CPU

As about heat sink I have decided this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233014

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233020

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233008     as second fan and in addition it will give some breath to RAM

I feel it will be sufficient for my purpose

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

Well lemme know how it works out for you...plan to OC the chip? If so how far? Lemme know what your benchmarks including room temp + orthos burn in when you do it.

I thought about getting it but after getting a second fan and the mounting bracket its just as expensive as the tuniq though but the 10 USD mail-in is handy. About 56.50 before rebate.

    Though id look into a

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999127 few bucks more but it pushes more air and then the 92mm.

I use 3 in my case and like them..though if you hate LED like me...you can snip the wires with some scissors without hurting the fan.

I have this CPU cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125 (They also have a version for Intel cpu's)

Anyway, it looks like a monster, but looks can be decieving. It's really only a tiny bit wider than the stock heatsink, and about 2x's higher. But not high enough to where it touches the case fan on my side window panel.

As for the bottom clearance; it is high enough so that the heatsink fan clears the ram. Which is important cause my on motherboard (Abit AN-52) the ram is extremely close to the heatsink.

I think most heatsink manufaturers take things like that into consideration when they design the product.

    tl;dr: It should fit.

    Hope this helps.

You will have to wait a little, if you can (3-4 weeks ) for my results. I do my build slow and meticulously.

I plan to OC chip to 3Gz.- if it works I'll try a bit more.  I did not make any benchmarks before and not going to play with them in future, I keep my life simple. I do not mind to pay a few bucks more to get what I want. I like this tower design just because it gives me air direction I like and allows to cool RAM - perhaps this is the best way to cool RAM. 92mm sided tower looks for me as properly sized (I'm  a designer and like properly sized things)

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

I am curious anyone use this cooler? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003

I wonder how well does it do...how far does it sit up from the bottom of the heatsink base to the first fin? I checked it out and tuniq is really wide and I hear this produces close results for half the price.

    Any thoughts?

I of course would grab the  XIGMATEK ACK-I7751 Retention Bracket

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

yes get the xigmatek. that is what i am running and it works great. You wont have any clearance issues.

I had to trim off an teeny tiny bit of my mobo heat sink to get a good fit but the heat sink on my board is much taller.

here is my board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127050 (notice the heatsink is much taller than a stick of ram while on your mobo the heat sink is only about as tall as the clips to hold the ram in place)

    as for performance

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-cooler-charts,1967-12.html

    http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm

It got my q6600 to 3.1ghz without raising any voltages at all. i dont have my load temps around me but i have posted them here before ill see if i can find them before I leave for work.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

LOL holy c**p that's a big a heat sink I thought this motherboard was bad ^-^  I got lucky and found someone with my board and he  too agrees with you on the fitting (since he uses one) so I plan to pick one up. Thanks for your help Kardon and everyone else.

Thanks for the reviews by the sounds of it this thing blows away the competition for price...though I think I will get a better fan depending on how this one pushes air.

I would love to see your temps though...room temps during and current voltage..I am a sucker for details. I think anyone posting reviews on this cooler should be required to put those 3 things on it on newegg.

You always get that one guy "omg its 20c on idle and 30c highload @ 3.6ghz" what he doesn't mention is he is living in Greenland with the windows open and his room is 10c and that he lapped the processor + cooler.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

    Hello Twist,

Please do not go with the Tuniq Tower 120. Have installed several of these on customers machines. You will be disappointed with the flimsy supplied backing plate with small adhesive area, the cooler is quite large for the lack luster cooling it provides, and the 4 thumb screw install can't be almost impossibile on mobos with large heatsinks (eg. eVGA 790 nfroce's).

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

yeah watched a few videos it certainly looked more impressive then it actually was.For a huge chunk of copper I am amazed it does so poorly.

I decided to go with the one a few posts above but with a better 120mm fan. After I lap it should work about 10-15c cooler then stock if not more.

Thanks for chiming in your thoughts though mtnstatetech.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

you may not have to lap it,,the ziggy is a direct contact(heatpipes to CPU) cooler,,that's why it works so much better than the rest,,,,more cooler companies are starting to use this method,,,and i wouldn't be surprised to see this as industry standard in the not to distant future,,,,i would try it first,,,and if you are not satisfied with temps then go thru the trouble of lapping,,but i beleive you'll find it unnecesary,,,,

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

Well sadly 90% of coolers are still not flat....while I wont do a mirror job on it I still require it to be flat as possible for max contact. I will just even it out IF I need to.

I am not a heavy overclocker so doing mirror lapping is not the plan ^-^

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

the base on the xigy is far from flat but like HD said the direct heat pipe contact does one hell of a job. I would be worried to lap it too much as i believe the heatpipes are hollow and you may open them up if you sand too far into the surface.I would go with HD on this one and try it before you lap it.

my q6600 @ 3.1 idles at 35, 32, 32, 32 and under prime 95 load peaks at 55, 52,52,52. looks like I need to reseat my cooler not sure why core 0 is out of wack. voltage is at 1.24 which is stock for my cpu but it verys from cpu to cpu. Those are pretty decent temps if you ask me with just as5 that I applied poorly, but it was a long night and i wanted to get my pc up and running lol. (they are below what my stock cooler was hitting at 2.4)

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

The Zalman CNPS 9700 comes pre-lapped.

Lapping a CPU voids warranty and gets you 1 to 3 degrees C difference on a hand polish job, and maybe 5 degrees C on a machine polished job.

Yeah that could be a air bubble. I was reading this perhaps it will help you out. I saw the wacky design so I figured it would need different AS5 job. Especially if there is divits where the copper pipes go threw the block.

ATM I am looking @ 36-35-31-34 @ idle and 55-54-51-53 @ highload @ 1.325v with stock at stock. In a 80F room. So it seems a tad hot since @ 3.1 with no voltage increase you should see no more then a 5-6c increase (or so most report)

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

is that just at high load or at 100% on all cores using something like prime 95 torture test? it can make a big diff in temps. (my load temps are taken 30 minutes into prime 95 torture test)

I just use 4x CPU-Burn in and enable the "disable error checking (maximum heat generation)"

Dunno how it competes with prime95 but it 100% my core and after 1 hour temps.

    Re: Q6600 Cooler

So I just installed this new cooler and first...for anyone reading this there is it is metal so beware. I put some rubber stops over the tip so nothing on it touches my motherboard.

Based off a 1.325v VID CPU its set to 1.280v based off CPU-z even though its set to auto @ 1.325v (anyone explain why bios says 1.325 yet cpuz says other wise? I have the energy saver disabled its running @ 266x9 idle)

    idle temps 30-27-23-26 and 1 hour 100% load 44-42-35-40 @ 21c room temp

Fan speed for idle is 800RPM where the high load fan jumps around 1000RPM-1050RPM.

Failed to overclock to 333x9 so I think I need to raise my voltage manually or I might not have my ram set up...will let ya know temps @ 3.0-3.2ghz once I figure out the issue.
