    New Intel X58 Motherboard Question.

The motherboard BOXDX58SO from intel that supports the new i7 nehalem chip says that it supports Triple channel memory.

However it only has 4 slots?  Is intel doing this for a reason?  All of the other X58 board makers are using 6 slots.

1.) Is this really a Triple Channel Board?

2.) What happens when I fill up all 4 slots?  Do I get cut down to 2 channel?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    It is triple channel memory.

If you use the fourth slot however, there is no performance gain.

So then the channels can be of different capacities?  I assumed they had to be the same size, but I don't know that for certain.

Say you have 4, 1 Gig sticks,

That would be 2 channels, each on gig.  Then a third channel of 2 gigs.

Is that accurate? or are you suggesting some other configuration?
