    Re: College Cookin

Hmm, i actually bought some chicken *** last week.  I will have to see about givin that a try.

A crockpot, well, i have one at my homestead......90 miles away........  Maybe i will see how much they are.  but i need to save money for gas (i drive a 79 firebird that gets ~18MPG highway) and i need to save up for another hard drive (need a 1TB, that'll be my 5th HDD)

Will look at doing the chicken with the soup, would do it for a sunday dinner but no cream of mushroom.

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far.  I may try that chicken and mac and cheese thing.  I got all the stuff for that.

    Re: College Cookin

You can make pizza fairly easily. Get a pre-made crust (I like Bobli), a jar of pasta sauce, mozarella cheese (block or pre-shreded, depending on how much work you want to do), and your favorite pizza toppings. Put a healthy layer of sauce on, leaving some room for the crust to hold on to. Put on as much cheese and toppings as you want, then bake in the oven following the directions on the package. Should take less than 20 minutes to make.

An alternative to pasta with red sauce: you'll need a macaroni-like pasta (rigatoni, penne, etc), olive oil, sharp Italian cheese (parmesean, locatelli; or, you could try double Gloucester, but not all stores sell this), some sort of veggie (don't need a veggie, broccoli works best), garlic (powder or fresh), onion (in a jar or fresh), meat (if you want; sausage and shimp work best, but not together), and crushed red peppers if you like spicy food. Cook the pasta until al dente, which means slightly under cooked. Drain it. Then, in the same pan, heat the olive oil and spices on low-medium heat for a few moments constantly stirring, especially with fresh garlic or chopped up onion so it won't burn. Toss in the pasta and add more oil and spice. Let it cook for a few moments, and you're good to go. *Note: spices are to taste. If you're adding a veggie or meat, the directions depend. Sausage should be pre-cooked and chopped into small pieces; shrimp and broccoli can be left a bit bigger, but should be bite-sized. How you like things flavored will depend on how long you put them in the oil, but they should go in before the pasta.

Some cuts of steak are pretty cheap; I've gotten a couple pounds of decent cuts for like $14 at Giant. These I usually cook in a pan on the stove on medium or low heat. I've made the mistake of doing it on high before; not pretty (didn't burn, but was uber well-done). These you can flavor how you want. For me, it varied on my mood: salt, pepper, garlic salt, garlic powder, and crushed red peppers are a variety of spices you can use.

Chicken can be BBQed in the oven. Takes about 45-60 minutes; when you see clear liquid in the pan, it's done. Sauce goes on about 15 minutes to the end.

Tacos are also uber easy to make. You could train a monkey to make tacos.

Here is a quick easy hot meal that I used to do.

Mix 1 can Mushroom soup, 1/2 cup milk,1 can tuna or chicken and a cup of shoestring potatoes or crushed chips in a casserole dish. Microwave for 5 min. then remove. Add some shoestring potatoes or crushed chips on top then microwave 4 min. more.

Hey Kunzy here is a real good one for you and the roomies get them to chip in and for about $4 each for 4-5 people it will make their day and yours. ing.- 1 rack of spare ribs- 1 bottle of barbeque sauce- 2 bags of instant rice- 2 cans of pinto beans and some seasonnings Honey if you like the sweeter barbeque. First season ribs and boil in a pot for 3-4 hours this is to tenderize them save the pot of water you boiled the ribs in put the 2 bags of rice in this and bring to a boil then simmer about 10 minutes, while this is simmering put the 2 cans of pinto beans on to cook and line a flat pan with aluminum foil put the ribs on this cover with barbeque sauce and honey both sides put into a preheated oven 350 F 10-15 minutes then prep your plates with rice layer the beans over this then slice your ribs and stack on plate around the rice. Re: College Cookin

just gotta use your judgement on that,,,figure out how many servings the meat will be, then how many taters you will eat per serving, same with carots, i usually use one good sized onion cut up pretty small,, if ya like celery,, i chopped up half a bunch, same with fresh scallions (spring onions) to some people, one large can of creme of mushroom and water to cover,,,couple tablespoons of beef bullion,,i use the paste kind,,,you can add stewed tomatoes, corn, anything you want,,,whatever ya got a taste for, i use the large can of creme of mushroom, nad only a small amount of water,,that way you end up with a thicker gravy like base when it's done,,trial and error,,,just use the ingredients you like,,
