will i have the option to have combo deals and specials recommend? That would make it worth while.

Be careful not to mistake combo deals for recommendations.  That's what I had thought until I found out that my new cpu wasn't officially supported for the motherboard that came with it, and they were quick to point to the disclaimers once I found out.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I like it, but what if you say it in a smaller form when you were searching? That would make it great, also i think it should be a option to see it on homepage, so if you dont like it you dont use it if you do you do, wow this is turning into a really long run on so ill stop.

,,,,it is an option,,,you have to click the my newegg button, after you log on to see it,,i don't just magically appear when you go to the homepage,,,,

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I logged into newegg this morning...saw the "My Newegg" tab and went forth. I actually put something in my wish list based on a recommendation.

    Good Job. I like it.

Would be nice to blend forum discussion...

My Newegg tracks interests - but then I typically jump to  "Reviews" and then this forum (since we're not supposed to use the reviews as a forum).

    In all? Excellent direction.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

My first thought is you are pushing for a sale. It's like Home Depot having a sales person waiting for me at the entrance and saying " Hey Mac, look at these items we think you need to buy." Now if you said Hey Mac, you've been a loyal customer and here's a 10 $ coupon or a Home Depot hat ( they have done both ) then I would spend more money at your store. Even the newegg emails you have sent, the items feel like clearance deals, and they are not deals. The hard drive you picked out for me, it is the same price as a first time buyer would pay.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I'd rather have someone at Newegg working B2B than fooling around with designing a page I won't use. It's been 9 months already.

He who does not learn from history is doomed to hear stupid quotes about it.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

You guys are going to hate me. I have a ridiculously long post. :[ My comments wouldn't fit in the survey, so...here goes.

I think the idea is great; it's scads better than the daily deals type pages because it somewhat looks at what you view, buy, and put in your wish list. It's a great first attempt, but I have a number of ideas for improvement.

    1) The ability to personalize favorite brands. Out of all the items I saw, I didn't see much from my favorite brands. IE: Two out of three sets of RAM were A-Data, while I prefer Corsair (which was the third set). I saw one HDD by my favorite brand, Seagate, out of three total HDDs. At least it's not completely off, there are at least a few brands that I prefer that I do see, but a way to customize what brands you see would be ideal. Also, maybe a form of "Brand Blacklist"...for instance, I will never EVER EVER touch a Maxtor or a Samsung HDD. I don't want to see them.

    2) More on the recommendations from the wish list...I would like to see something more of a feature where it would compare newer items, or items with similar features but a better deal price wise. For example: I had Seagate 1tb drives in one of my wish lists...and in my random searching, I found the Seagate 1.5tb, and saw it was a much better deal. The My Newegg page should show things like that. I will say, however, kudos to only showing me 1tb drives instead of smaller sizes, that was a plus, though one of the drives was a Samsung. :[

    3) More customization issues, and just a thought: A feature to input your current computer specs. Out of the three RAM options available, only one matched one of my machines: the DDR2 667 (PC5300) fits my laptop, and I had been looking to update...but it was a 2gb model, which isn't supported in my MacBook. And it was A-Data. >:[ Maybe you can use the RAM database that you guys have for people to check what kind of RAM they need...IE, I put in my model of MacBook, and it pops up the type of RAM I need, in accordance to my brand preferences, of course.

    4) Aesthetically speaking, the layout is ok. I would give customers the option of having the quicklinks bar on the right or the left (I would prefer the left). Also, smaller icons = more items fitting. I would love to see more than 4 items on the main part of the page. Again, for customization, maybe moving around the categories to suit your needs. Something of the sort.

    5) This page also has the potential to replace the dashboard entirely, if molded right. Again, it's mostly missing the customization aspect; if you had plans to replace the current dashboard with this, I would suggest throwing the most recent order status in here...of course, at the user's will that is. For people who wouldn't like the recommended items, they could turn it off, and have a normal dashboard.

The main thing it's lacking is the ability to make it actually OUR page. I would feel a lot more at home with something like that. It has the potential to be something great though.

I noticed someone posting about how the "old pros" wouldn't like using it too much, liking to do their own research, which is fine...but I think, if implemented right with enough of the custom stuff, it could be a great tool for new techies, and something useful for more experienced guys too.

Sorry for the really long post. :[

I agree hugely with PapaHomer, a "recommend by compatibility" feature would be a seriously powerful tool, for both new folk and experts, it would just really quicken things up.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I am not sure if this has changed, but one thing I dislike about my Newegg, is that for example, if I buy a Hard Drive, or there is a hard drive on my wish list, then under "newegg recommends" and "newegg recommends based on your wishlist", i will only find hard drivesi in there.  recently i just bought 5.1 speakers, and in one of the sections i only find speakers, which for me is pointless.

Other than that, I realyl like the idea guys..

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I took the survey and as I stated this page would be great just after you order so you can find everything. And if I have the option to have combo deals and specials recommend, Maybe even Daily Promo's or specials. That would make it worth while. And the ability to edit some refrence material. Like the fact that I prefer AMD over Intel any day of the week and out of the 30 computer builds Have yet to use a Intel in any of those machines.

Maybe even a Special recomendations section of almost gone items, To help expose some of those hard to find little parts, Like a Power adapter wire split into 2-4 3 wire fan harness. or Something of that nature.

I would recommend this page As the After order page. It would come in handy alot!

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

this works good for me. i always over-think and worry when i order something and the forum is full of believable and helpful advice; it's kind of like customer review on newegg, and anyone can see that this is a very cool thing for newegg to do. so, like, the thing to do is keep you guys in business so that, certainty and satisfaction rule the transaction! hummph, sorry, but for real.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

The recommendations make no sense, in or out of context.

    Under Newegg Recommends, it suggests:
A CenOmax digital picture frame. I've never ordered anything relevant in my life, other than maybe an SD card.
A Linkworld Black Keyboard. I usually buy only higher-end input devices, but maybe it's relevant because I bought cheaper components recently and NewEgg knows they've already broken? (They have. That's what I get for buying a $2 mouse).
A retail Q6600 processor. This is probably related to the OEM Q6600 I already own.
And a P5Q motherboard... To what, replace my P5K-E WIFI?

If I go to the entire wishlist of 24 items, it almost makes more sense.
OCZ Platinum RAM - I do buy a lot of RAM, sure.
A Lite-On DVD drive - Ok, yeah, I needed a DVD drive and looked at a lot of them lately.
A Logitech MX518 and a Logitech G5 mouse. These make much more sense, given my purchase history.
    Another motherboard.
A Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB drive. This is a really odd suggestion. Why this particular drive? Because I've bought 7200.9 500GB drives in the past?
    A Pentium E2180 CPU. Because I bought a Celeron Dual-Core recently, maybe?
A ExpressCard TV tuner. I have no idea what it's suggesting this for.
    G.SKILL 4GB DDR2 1066 kit. What, because I recently bought a slightly lower end DDR2 4GB G.SKILL kit?
An Antec Nine Hundred case and 2 antec power supplies.
Retail E8400 and E8500 processors, ANOTHER motherboard, and a retail Q9300.

I'd rather it not suggest stuff so close to what I already have. If I've recently purchased DDR2 RAM, why try to sell me more? I'm probably perfectly satisfied with the RAM I just purchased.

My Wish List (which was a complete PC build I forgot about in February)  results in a ton of headsets and DVD drives. 16 CD/DVD burners, 7 headsets, and a Heatsink/Fan combination (A Tuniq Tower 120 that I already own). This is completely baffling.

Top sellers for me is equally irrelevant. 24 random case accessories - Vibration dampeners, generic fan grills, cold cathode tubes, expansion slot guards, a fan controller, etc. It makes no sense, unless this is stuff I've looked at in the past.

New Items for You seems to be a random selection of new items. Fair enough.Looking through it, very little is anything even partially of interest.

And then there's accessories for my recent purchase.

No, my RAM does not need a Xigmatek CPU heatsink, retention bracket and Arctic Cooling thermal paste.
Neither does my Antec P192 case.
Neither does my WD Caviar 6400AAKS, although the serial ATA cable is ALMOST a relevant suggestion.
I bought a DVI to HDMI cable. Suggesting 3 more DVI to HDMI cables to me is pointless.
What caused a USB 2.0 expansion card to cause the system to suggest a non-USB headset?
My G11 keyboard doesn't need an optical mousepad, nor a Xigmatek heatsink. I'll accept the suggestion of a gamer headset here, though.

There are few suggestions that even begin to make sense. The closest being Serial ATA cables for Serial ATA drives, and Arctic Silver TIM remover and surface purifier for new heatsinks. Otherwise, it's completely worthless.

    Nice interface, needs more personilization

I'd like it if there was a function that would allow me to choose the topics and products I was interested in to place as "My Recomendations," for example I am currently interested in bulk deals on flash drives and external harddrives. If there was a selection system that would allow personalization of the recomendations it would add not only convenience for the user, but also create easier sales for you guys.

Over all, I like what I see and I enjoy your service. I am a soldier currently deployed in Iraq and I work in our S6 Automations shop (yes, I am a nerd stuck in the military lol). I often repair fellow soldiers computers for them in my spare time and I use your service as well as your Tigerdirect (oooohhhh the enemy is near....) for many of my parts, components, upgrades, and general time killing during browsing.. I mean work hours.

Thanks again for the hook up (I just bought 25 2G Kingston sticks from you guys for super cheep and will sell the hell out of them here! What? It's not like we get paid worth a damn in the desert!) an keep up the good work. I just joined your Eggxpert - quite clever title by the way - and look forward to using more of your services in the future. If you ever do any soldier support stuff let me know!

Needs refining, but other things need attention too

I like the concept behind it, but I would probably do it the old fashion way. Some functions I could see myself using, like what kind of ink the printer I bought needs, or what kind of flash card does my camera need, so on. I don't really like the accessories.

One thing I would rather see Newegg work on other than this is refining some of the filters. The one thing that annoys me the most is when I go to look for motherboards and I want it to be compatable with a certain CPU, you can't select that one type of CPU. You select by groups. So there are three choices all with the cpu you want, but all bring up different items. There are other areas that have that same issue. I'd really like to see that changed.

    Re: MyNewegg Launch Survey

I look at the my newegg once in a while, half the time i laugh. It's a good idea, but it needs to be brought back to the end user a bit and a little less generic then it is. Ok, the general recommendations arent half bad. A new gaming keyboard, some 20x dvdrs and a reasonable couple of processors. the based on wish list is actually not bad for larger wishlists like mine. the first 3 of 7 are 80gb hdds, which are listed in 4 of my 8 wish lists (2 cluster wishlists with small drives for base system and 2 are server systems with an 80gb for / with a few 500gb-1tb drives for storage).

the one that irked me the most was Top Sellers For You... for ME? What need could any of my previous orders or wish lists have for 30-60in flat panel mounts. I've looked at them, yes, but I havent purchased any. Dont need a mount for a TV that I dont have. Offer me a TV for a good price and maybe it'd work out a bit better. Offer me upgraded parts over previous orders (show me a QX processor to replace my Q6600, maybe another 4gb of ram, or upgraded video cards).

Now, New Items For You annoyed me as well. What would I want a 9800GTX for when all of my previous purchases in the last 6mo for vid cards have been AMD. Even my wish list shows only the main cluster wishlist as having some cheap little 35 nvidias. Thats the only Nvidia system in the whole order set or wishlist for 6mo. I ordered 1 card in the past that was nvidia, and that was 3 years ago. 4gb of ram, not a bad offer, the motherboard, ehhh, not so great.

It needs 2 parts, first, more personalization. I want to feel like its recommended for me, not because everyone else liked it. I want it to relate more to what I own then what I've looked at. And consider what I've looked at vs what I own. As I said, what goods a flat panel mount if I dont own the flat panel. If it was for a 22in widescreen lcd monitor, maybe i'd look into it as ok. but these start at 30. The second part is more generous to the end user. Offer special deals, specific to that user, that arent on the daily deals. You could look at it from previous orders or current wishlists. both preferably. Offer me a 3870x2 for my 3870, or the 4870x2 and 4870 off of a wishlist. give me an extra $10 off the price of something showing an already instant discount, you'll have my attention. Heck, you could even have fun a bit and randomly pick someones wishlist and offer them the whole wishlist at 5% or so discount. My one list has a 4870x2, 4870, 4gb ram and 2 widescreen 22in viewsonic x monitors. if that was all offered at 5% off, it might actually get me to buy it all.

Also, offer an additional bit off for preferred card holders. you'd get more card holders and get more product sold. I know where I would (big box hardware), for every card opened, we'll usually see $1500 in sales for that one person on that one day, and likely to see $5k for the year thanks to that one person opening a card. Heck, I know it works because the day I opened my preferred account, I ordered $1700 in parts for a new build, on top of the $500 I already purchased. The difference with me and most was that I paid it off in 4 months where as most would take the whole year or more to do it. Hence why my next order goes on the preferred card if the deals are good enough. Give me something back, and i'll give you my money... simple as that.
